Short description: | Endowed Schools Act passed
Medium description: | Endowed Schools Act passed which among other things saw the end to the need for teachers to receive a license to teach from the 'ordinaries' of the parish. According to Barnard (1961) "[The act] gutted the [Taunton Commission] Report" implementing few of the recommendations of the commission. Included a clause that stated "in framing schemes under this Act, provision shall be made as far as conveniently may be for extending to girls the benefits of endowments" (cited in Barnard, 1961).
